How to Cope With a Loved One That Has Bipolar

in Individual

Any individual that is stricken with bipolar is certainly suffering in many different ways. In other ways, though it could almost be classed as the "family disease" because it affects all of the members of the household.

When bi polar first starts, it manifests itself in different ways. One thing is for certain you will begin to notice changes in the individual. They may be all of a sudden or subtle. Perhaps they don't seem to care as much about the things they used when it came to chores. Housewives that had the reputation of being meticulous all of a sudden have no interest in their normal routine and housework becomes the farthest thing from their mind. For the outsider of this terrible disease such as the husband, wife, sister or brother or parents even it becomes a bit of a concern. At this point though it may be an isolated incident that the loved one may put down to as just being plain fed up. The best way to cope with this is not to make a big deal out of it. If you live within the household continue with your normal routine as far as your responsibilities go.

There are many changes that can take place with the bi polar individual that come on rapidly. They may have erratic sleep patterns, such as staying awake for a few days then crashing. Or perhaps they are going out and buying everything in site with delusions of becoming a highly successful business person. Then they may become the martyr where they feel they have to take on the whole problems of the family.

These symptoms are just a few of what the family has to deal with. One of the hardest steps you may have to take is to force the individual with bi polar into getting some professional help. Don't forget in most cases the bi polar sufferer doesn't believe there is anything wrong with them it's the rest of the world that has a problem.

Sleeping disorders will quickly tear down their health and can be downright dangerous if they operate machinery or drive a car because they are so tired. You must have an intervention in order to prevent harm to this individual or even the loss of their life or someone else's. It is not an easy thing to do to have to force someone into getting medical health against their will, but you may very well be saving their life.
